Dynamics of atomic magic in the Jaynes-Cummings model

英文摘要Magic (non-stabilizerness), as a basic quantum resource in the stabilizer formalism of quantum computation, has attracted considerable attention over the last two decades. Its significance and applications lie in that it provides a novel perspective of quantum features different from quantum entanglement and atomic (spin) nonclassicality for universal fault-tolerant quantum computation. However, its dynamics is relatively less studied. In this work, we analyze the dynamics of atomic magic in the celebrated Jaynes-Cummings model, which captures fundamental aspects of atom-field interactions. By use of the quantifier of magic defined via characteristic functions (quantum Fourier transforms) of quantum states, we perform some quantitative studies of the dynamics of atomic magic and reveal some typical behaviors of atomic magic. Starting from the atomic ground state (which is a stabilizer state) and various initial field states, we evaluate numerically the magic of the evolved atomic state in the Jaynes-Cummings model and display some interesting features concerning the first arrival time of the maximum magic, the periodic or irregular oscillations of magic, etc. These theoretical observations may be useful for the experimental control and manipulation of magic as a quantum resource.
