This paper presents a novel method for forming Al0.2MoNbTaTiW/MC refractory high-entropy alloy
(RHEA) composite by spark plasma sintering and hot extrusion. The RHEA composite has a dual phase
structure: a RHEA matrix (BCC) and a complex carbide (FCC). The hot extrusion process not only introduces the carbide phase in the RHEA matrix, but also significantly improves the mechanical properties
of the SPSed Al0.2MoNbTaTiW RHEA. Interlocking grain boundaries are formed between the matrix and
the carbide. The crystalline orientation relationship between the matrix with the h110i fibre texture
and the carbide with the h001i fibre texture is {001}BCC//{110}FCC. Hot extrusion is a feasible process
for forming and enhancing properties of RHEAs.
