英文摘要The configurations of localized excitations, such as polarons and excitons in M-X chains with competing charge-density-wave (CDW) and bond-order-wave (BOW) orders are studied as functions of coupling constants. The lattice relaxation approach to quasi-one-dimensional systems, developed by Su and Yu earlier, has been applied to study the radiative and nonradiative transitions of these excitations. Non-monotonic dependence of the relaxation rate on the coupling constant is predicted from the theory and its possible connection with photoluminescence experiments is discussed.
