英文摘要The developed status of thermal barrier coating was reviewed, and isothermal and thermally cyclic oxidations of EB-PVD (electron beam physical vapor deposited) thermal barrier coatings (TBC) were performed. It was shown that the oxidation of TBC approximately follows a parabolic kinetics at 1000 degreesC after the oxidation became stable. During thermal cycling, the microcracks are first formed in the ceramic top coat along the columnar grain boundaries, and then propagate in the ceramic top coat along and cross columnar direction. The growth stress of oxide scale and the thermally induced stress lead to occurance of many cracks at the interface of thermally grown oxides (TGO)/bond coat, resulting in failure of TBC in TGO or at the interface of TGO/bond coat.
