英文摘要The Sichuan-Tibet and Sino-Nepal highways, the main highways in south Tibet, are vital not only for the local economic development, but also for the national defense. The absence of railways in this area leads to a dependence on highway transportation. However, the highways are severely threatened by a wide distribution of mountain hazards, such as debris flows, landslides, and avalanches. These are the result of the complex geologic structures, complicated strata and lithologic characteristics, intensive geotectonic movements, a great variety of hydrothermal conditions and strong glacial action. Of all the mountain hazards, debris flows are the most important. In this paper, 1848 debris flows and their distribution are presented; hazards and their causes are analyzed in detail. Lastly, the authors take the example of debris flow hazards of Zamunongba Gully and the subsequent dilute debris flow resulting from the outburst of Yigong Lake to introduce the reason, hazard process, and the mitigation measures of this kind of great hazard event, and calculate the maximum peak flow, velocity, and the breach width using some dam-break models. Comparing with the field survey, the dam-break models of U.S. Weather bureau (Wetmore & Fread 1981, 1984) and Stocks (Rouse 1950) are suitable for the calculation of the debris dam breach in this case. According to the calculation, the maximum peak flow, velocity and width of the debris dam-break flood at the breach section are 122,000 m(3)/s, 9.7 m/s, and 350 m.
