Microstructural and optical properties of Pr3+:(Ca0.97Gd0.03)F-2.03 transparent ceramics sintered by vacuum hot-pressing method

英文摘要Pr3+:(Ca0.97Gd0.03)F(2.03 )transparent ceramics were prepared by hot-pressed sintering at the temperature ranging from 720 degrees C to 840 degrees C for 1.5 h using the co-precipitated synthetic nanopowders as raw materials. The microstructure, optical transmittance and fluorescence performance of Pr3+:(Ca0.97Gd0.03)F-2.03 transparent ceramics were investigated. The grain sizes of as-prepared transparent ceramics became larger with increasing the sintering temperature, while the relative density was increased firstly and then slightly decreased. Further, the specimen sintered at 780 degrees C was of highest density and compact structure with an average grain size of 400 nm, for which the in-line transmittance is 89% at 1200 nm and 78% at 600 nm. The absorption and enhanced visible luminescence characterizations of Pr3+:(Ca0.97Gd0.03)F-2.03 transparent ceramic were investigated in detail. All the results indicated that Pr3+:(Ca0.97Gd0.03)F-2.03 transparent ceramic had potential applications in the fields of visible luminescence.
