Practical methods for GIS education in China - How to meet social need of high quality human resources

英文摘要GIS, remote sensing and GPS (called 3S) have been widely researched and applied in China, both in military and civil aspects. GIS is usually the direct interface between users and the systems. Universities in China believe there will be a strong demand for professional employee in civil aspects. Many universities have set up the major of GIS. The employment problem becomes serious not only to the students themselves, but also to the universities and the society. The study analyzes the main problems of GIS education or training in today's China. One is Unreasonable course arrangement has not conform to the professional requirements of GIS. Second, Many students are lack of operating skills, and their practicing training is insufficient. Third, Many universities have little experiences for the professional training and the qualities gap between universities are very large. Last, the education targets are not clear. The study gives three solutions to change such situation. First is to provide multi-mode remote sensing education by different organization, not limited by the stuff of universities. First is to provide teachers or students with training as career planning and development Second, it is beneficial to set up professional authentication system both for the teachers and students. Professional authentication system should be found to ensure the quality of education. Last, it is important for the universities to provide more real practical opportunities for the students.; EI; 0
