'Transparency' that breaks the frame: Inclusive space in urban landscape regeneration
Wei, Fang ; Wang, Jun
2015
英文摘要The concept of phenomenal transparency describing different overlapping graphics was first used in architectural analysis. This concept is undergoing further transformation and can be introduced to deal with the contradiction of the juxtapositions. In the background of city renewal and urban landscape regeneration, the issues on changing urban form, cultural diversity, place identity and the conflicts of globalization and locality, should be viewed and organized in an inclusive way. This article argues that 'phenomenal transparency' should break the visual frame and 'frontality,' and develop into a new perspective of public space regeneration. This article also discusses the possible strategies of constructing inclusive space and discusses research projects such as the reconstruction and redevelopment of post-industrial programs in the Capital Steel Group area (one of China's leading steel manufacturers which was moved out and left almost seven square kilometers of brown fields to redevelop). In order to provide new public spaces, an open structural and overlapping method to show the logic of the sequence and context of space is needed. It demonstrates that the advances in theories of design in landscape architecture should focus beyond the physical environment in ways of two-dimensional pictorial space and should not separate people's perception from the environment. In conclusion, the concept should transcend from the visual art to a cultural and social juxtapositions relating to human-space relationship Space and time should be highly relevant, and layers of history and formal complexity of simultaneity should be unveiled in a new way.; EI; 672-677
