英文摘要Heavy metals (HMs) in drinking water can affect human health through the exposure pathways of oral ingestion, dermal contact, and inhalation. This study assesses the exposure of rural mountain communities to trace metals via oral ingestion. 192 water samples in two seasons from 8 rural villages in Central-Hunza, Northern Pakistan, were collected and analysed for 8 trace metals by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (Perkins-Elmer 2000). Based on the concentration of heavy metals in water, the health-risks assessment such as hazard quotients (HQ) and chronic daily intake (CDI) were calculated. Results showed that in summer the average concentrations of Ar, Cd, Cu, Fe, Hg and Pb were higher than the WHO Drinking Water Guidelines while Zn and Cr exhibited elevated concentrations in both seasons. The findings also revealed that Hazard Quotient HQ were near to the acceptable limits, indicating non-carcinogenic risk to the recipients via oral intake of water however HMs i.e., Cd, Cr, Hg and Pb which could pose serious health risks to the local inhabitant in future. The calculated values for CDI were found in the order of Zn > Cu > Ar > Pb > Cd > Hg in summer and Zn > Cr > Pb > Ar > Cd > Fe > Hg during winter. The data provided in this study suggested that quick action should be taken to protect and control the drinking water from the different nonpoint pollution sources, especially the application of agricultural fertilizers.
