In the battle, “nationality conversions” and “cultural assimilation” seemingly pointed to a new “nationality approach” for the Philippine Chinese. However, the Philippine Chinese lost their cultural underpinnings when they obtained their new identity, leading to a slump in Chinese-language education in the Philippines.
