英文摘要陈兴德,厦门大学高等教育质量建设协同创新中心副教授,教育学博士。; 【中文摘要】晚清时期科举制遭遇了一个极端化、负面化评价过程,这集中体现为针对科举的“污名化”与“妖魔化”。晚清以来科举考试正向功能的下降、近代中国“三千年未有之大变局”所引发的中国知识分子“现代性焦虑”等,促成了科举评价负面化倾向的发生。科举评价的负面化倾向不仅令科举形象受损,对科举制被废止产生重要影响,而且左右了20世纪以来科举评价的基本取向。走出科举评价的极端化困境,既是科举认识深化的结果,也为科举学研究指明了方向。 【Abstract】In the late Qing Dynasty,the imperial examination system encountered extreme and negative evaluations, which may be classified as ‘stigmatization' and ‘demonization.' Such negative evaluations resulted from,among others,the decline in the positive function of imperial examinations in the late Qing Dynasty and the ‘modernity anxiety' on the part of Chinese intellectuals who witnessed the “changes unprecedented in the past 3,000 years” at the start of China's modernity. Those negative evaluations not only damaged the image of imperial examinations and tremendously promoted the effort abolish the imperial examination system, but have also determined the keynote of evaluations of the imperial examinations since the beginning of the 20th century. It is argued that a deepened understanding of imperial examinations will result in avoidance of going to extremes in evaluations of imperial examinations, which in turn will guide the study of imperial examinations in an appropriate direction.; 中央高校基本科研业务费项目“发展理论视野下的中国高等教育现代性研究”(ZK1005)
