RAMAN-SPECTRA OF CHEMISORBED SPECIES ON AMMONIA-SYNTHESIS IRON CATALYSTS

英文摘要Laser Raman spectra of chemisorbed species on doubly promoted iron catalyst A110-3 exposed toflowing gaseous systems of N2/3H2, 10N/H2, N2, and H2, separately, as well as flowing or stationarygaseous systems of D2, or 15NH3/H2, at 400 or 450℃ and atmospheric pressure, were taken in situunder reaction conditions, as well as after rapid cooling to room temperatture. Raman peaks at 2040(sm) cm-1, 1940(m) cm-1, and 423(m) cm-1, 443(w) cm-1may be assigned to vN-N and VFe-N2 oftwo different species of chemisorbed N2, probably an inclined-mounting species and a flat-lying spe-cies, respectively, both with multi-nuclear coordination to active sites on α-Fe (Ⅲ). Absence of Ramanpeaks of N and NH at 1088cm-1 and 890 cm-1, respectively, which were observable with 10N2 /H2 /Feand N2 /Fe-(residual H) systems after rapid cooling from 450℃ to room temperature, shows that Nand NH cannot be the major N-containing chemisorbed species under the above ammonia-synthesisreaction conditions far away from equilibrium, and that the known inverse deuterium isotope effectcannot be explained on thermodynamic ground and dissociative mechanism. The results favor anassociative reaction mechanism for the major reaction pathway with hydrogenation of chemisorbedN2 by chemisorbed H (Raman peaks at 1950 cm-1, 1901 cm-1, assignable to v Fe-H as a rate-control-ling step, probably in competition with a minor reaction pathway with a dissociative mechanism.
