Meanwhile, it points out our understanding of design is still limited in many ways. These limitations are taken as an "encouraging" sign which will promote the development of design history by examining the assumptions from which those limitations arise, and thinking about how we might overcome them and move forward. This essay brings an historical perspective to the study of design that provides its economic, political, and social context, which aims to reveal an expanding world of design.
