中文摘要The effects of improvised nuclear devices (IND) used by terrorists were analyzed to develop appropriate responses. Simulations were used to assess the prompt effects (including thermal radiation, blast force and prompt nuclear radiation) and the longer term radioactive fallout affect a ground explosion of an IND. The simulations analyzed a 10 kt TNT equivalent ground explosion. The results compared well with the air explosion results from the software Hotspot in terms of the blast damage radius and the prompt nuclear radiation. The thermal radiation and radioactive fallout predictions were within one order of magnitude of the Hotspot results. These results are reasonable after taking into account the differences between ground and air explosions, Thus, this method can be used to predict the effects of an improvised nuclear device terror attack.
