英文摘要A novel incremental bending process has been proposed for manufacturing complicated curved sheet metal parts, such as hull plates, based on the concept of flexible forming. This process uses a set of punches to press the sheet metal stroke by stroke to incrementally form it into a desired shape that is prescribed by the heads of the height-adjustable pillars in a flexible supporting system. This process is undoubtedly a promising technology for flexible manufacturing of sheet metal. However, it was found to be a challenging work to decrease the forming defects such as surface dimples, springback, etc. in order to meet the demand for high-quality production. In this study, an elastoplastic analysis program employing the static-explicit finite element method was developed for simulating this new bending process, and its analysis accuracy was validated by a validation analysis. Several numerical simulations were carried out under different forming conditions, and the results show that the surface dimples and springback could be improved by using suitable punch geometrynd forming path. The results have also been validated by experiments.
